This special election was conducted by the Fiovan Secretary of State, Éovart Andrinescu, and took place due to an agreement stemming from the contested outcome of the previous election. With previous candidate Dieter Vercariă declaring for the incumbent Senator Miestră Schivă, the race was uncontested and was effectively run as a yes/no "retention" referendum.
